No pressure. No obligation. Just honest advice from people who know windows.

  • It starts with a phone call to schedule a time that works for you. One of our designers comes to your home — we bring fabric samples, product brochures, and everything you need to see and feel the options in your own space, under your own lighting. We measure every window, walk through your goals for each room, and give you our honest recommendations. There's no pressure and no obligation.

Most consultations take about 60 to 90 minutes depending on how many windows you're working with. At the end, we'll put together a written quote for you to review at your own pace.

  • For most products, the timeline from consultation to installation is 3 to 5 weeks. Here's the rough breakdown: after your consultation, you typically have a few days to review your quote and make decisions. Once you place your order, manufacturing usually takes 2 to 4 weeks depending on the product ; shades and blinds tend to come in faster, while plantation shutters can take 4 to 8 weeks due to their custom construction.

We'll give you a specific timeline estimate during your consultation based on exactly what you're ordering, so there are no surprises. Installation itself is typically completed in a single visit — a few hours for most homes.

  • No, that's exactly what we're there for. Professional measurement is part of our free service. Getting the measurements right is critical for a perfect fit, and it's one of the biggest advantages of working with a professional rather than buying off the shelf. We take care of it completely.

  • We handle everything from start to finish, consultation, measurement, ordering, and professional installation. You won't need to coordinate with a separate installer or figure out mounting hardware. Our team does the whole job and tests every treatment before leaving your home.

  • We're based in Commack and serve homeowners throughout Long Island. Our most active service areas include Commack, Smithtown, Huntington, Hauppauge, Northport, Cold Spring Harbor, Dix Hills, Kings Park, Setauket, Melville, Syosset, and Plainview, but we're happy to discuss your location if you're not on this list.

  • Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.

  • Every home is different, so we don't publish fixed prices. The cost depends on the product type, window sizes, the number of windows, and the options you choose.

The best way to get an accurate number is the free in-home consultation, where we measure your windows and quote you precisely. There's no obligation, and you'll leave with a written quote you can take your time reviewing.

  • Three reasons: fit, expertise, and service. Big box stores sell off-the-shelf products that rarely fit your windows correctly, installed by contractors who may have never met you before. What you save upfront, you often pay for later in re-dos, ill-fitting treatments, or products that wear out quickly.

With S&S, your treatments are custom-made to your exact window measurements by someone who has seen your space and understands your goals. We've been doing this for 40 years. We're not going anywhere, and we stand behind every installation we do.

  • Quality window treatments — especially plantation shutters and custom drapery — are one of the few home improvements that buyers actually notice and value. Plantation shutters in particular are often highlighted in real estate listings because they're permanent, elegant, and convey quality throughout a home.

Beyond resale value, energy-efficient treatments like cellular shades can meaningfully reduce heating and cooling costs, which adds financial value from day one.

  • For most Hunter Douglas shades, regular dusting with a soft brush attachment on your vacuum or a gentle feather duster is all you need. For spot cleaning, a lightly damp cloth works on most fabrics, always blot, never rub. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners.

For deeper cleaning, Hunter Douglas offers a professional ultrasonic cleaning service for certain products. We can advise you on the right care method for your specific treatment, just give us a call. Taking care of your treatments properly will significantly extend their life.

  • Yes. We repair and re-cord blinds and shades, broken cords, snapped slats, damaged mechanisms. If you have treatments you love but they're not working properly, call us before you assume they need to be replaced. Repairs are often much more cost-effective than you'd expect, and we'd rather help you extend the life of what you have than sell you something new when it isn't necessary.

  • Yes! we work on commercial spaces including offices, retail environments, and larger renovation projects. Commercial work often involves different requirements around light control, privacy, and durability than residential, and we have experience with all of it. If you're planning a commercial project on Long Island, call us to discuss the scope.

  • Absolutely, and this is something we take seriously. Corded window treatments can be a hazard for young children and pets, which is why we always discuss cordless and motorized options for rooms where kids or animals spend time. Hunter Douglas has an excellent range of cordless and motorized treatments that are just as functional as corded versions and completely safe.

We'll always flag this during the consultation if it's relevant to your home. Child safety is non-negotiable, we won't recommend anything we'd be uncomfortable installing in our own families' homes.
